I would like to thank a global pandemic for pushing me into this. I honestly never thought about how the products I use could affect my health currently or long term. I had fake nails, hair extensions, would get Botox religiously, and lip fillers. When the shutdown happened, I was unable to do any of that. So, I slowly got rid of all of it.

Luckily, my best friend was going through the same process with me. We have helped each other find replacement products, develop new healthy habits, and articles/books to continue educating ourselves. This helped me revamped my makeup, skincare, haircare, oral care, and deodorant routine to all clean products.

Switching to clean products wasn’t the only change in my routine. I began researching dry brushing, gua sha, and hair training. I checked in with my Naturopath, had some blood work done and allergy tests. (Disclaimer: I have a tendency to be a weee bit of a hypochondriac) If you are looking to revamp your routines to clean due to how your body is feeling I would highly recommend checking in with your doctor as well, so you know what (if anything) is going on with your body.

Just a few random facts to get you thinking:

  • 26 Seconds is all it takes for your skin to absorb the product you’re using
  • The U.S. has 11 Cosmetic Ingredients banned (Bithionol, Chlorofluorocarbon propellants, chloroform, Halogenated Salicylanilides, hexachlorophene, mercury compounds, methylene chloride, prohibited cattle materials, and sunscreens in cosmetics)
    • The European Union has 1,400 cosmetic ingredients banned.
  • The only oversight of the Cosmetic Industry comes under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act passed in…. 1938!
    • DO YOUR RESEARCH when it comes to clean products.
    • Companies who advertise clean products yet have caused severe adverse reactions tend to say the FDA found no wrong doings.
  • Aluminum in antiperspirants has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer.
  • Fluoride is a neurotoxin (Found in toothpaste, mouthwash, and our drinking water)
  • Avoid any product that has “Fragrance” or “Parfum” listed as an ingredient. It’s an umbrella term for hundreds of chemicals that brands aren’t required to disclose.

Here is what I have been using:

  • Living Libations Oral Care Kit (My mouth has NEVER felt cleaner!)
  • Tatcha The Rice Wash
  • Josie Maran Skin Dope
  • ILIA Makeup (the mascara is INCREDIBLE!)
  • Nécessaire Deodorant & body wash
